Half of Europe doesn't feel like they belong to their workplace

The European Connection Crisis Report 2022 does not give a rosy outlook for the European job market - what are the reasons?

BetterUp conducted a survey of more than 1,000 employees in Germany, France and the UK from March to June 2022 as part of the European Connection Crisis Report 2022. The result is frightening: 51% of employees - half of Europe - do not feel they belong to their company. The lack of social inclusion and integration in the work environment are the main reason for this. Hybrid working and working from home have created barriers between employees. Although the offices are now slowly filling up again, there is still a distance between the employees. The social relationship with the supervisor is also frozen.

89% of employees are more willing to change employers if integration in the work environment is weak. In order to avoid a real employee fluctuation, intensive attention must be paid to the integration of the individual members of a team. According to the study, employees who feel comfortable at work are both more productive and less at risk of stress or even burnout. Belonging to the team and the company also means fewer conflicts in the workplace. The innovative spirit is also inspired by a positive working environment.

Managers are asked to create an effective team culture. Every employee should clearly identify with the company's goals and be able to help shape them. Active involvement in team processes or company decisions also motivates people to perform at their best. The most important task of managers is to support employees in their daily concerns - this creates trust and a strong bond with the company.
